NATIONAL EYE DONATION AWARENESS PROGRAMME

As part of National Eye Donation Fortnight 2026, was organized by the Dept of OBG Nursing and VI Semester B.Sc.(N) Students P.K Das college of Nursing organized an awareness programme at Government Taluk Hospital, Ottapalam on 3rd September 2026. The programme was conducted with the theme “Enlighten Minds, Change Lives” with the aim of creating awareness about eye donation and encourage the public to understand its importance in restoring vision and transforming the lives of individuals with visual impairment.
Dr.Seethara, Ophthalmologist, also took part in the programme and contributed to the awareness activities. Smt. Mercy, SNO, and Smt. Sreeja, SNO of Taluk Hospital, Ottapalam participated in the programme. The programme commenced with a welcome speech delivered by Ms.Subina. The speaker highlighted the importance of eye donation and emphasized the role of health care professionals and the nursing students in spreading awarness among the public. The inaugural address and theme revealing was given by Mrs. Vijaya Nirmala Devi, P.K Das College of Nursing. The address focused on the significance of National eye donation Fortnight and the need to encourage people to make informed decisions regarding eye donation and also emphasized that a simple decision to donate one’s eyes after death can give the gift of sight and hope to another person.
As part of the programme, the students presented an energetic and informative flash mob. Through music, coordinated movements and meaningful expressions, the students conveyed the message of eye donation and attracted the attention of the public. The performance served as an innovative method of health education and awareness. The programme was conducted with the objectives of creating awareness among the public about the importance of eye donation and encouraging people to come forward and pledge their eyes after death. The programme highlighted the message that eye donation is a noble act that can help restore the gift of sight to people who are visually impaired.
The programme focused on aware the participants about the significance of eye donation and the role it can play in giving the gift of sight to others. The event conveyed the important message that eye donation is a valuable social service and that a person's decision to donate their eyes can bring light and hope into another person's life.
Beneficiaries
The Programme benefited to the students, Health care personnel and OPD patients. Total number of beneficiaries are 70 Participants.
Outcome of the Programme
 The Eye Donation Awareness Programme was successfully conducted with active participation from hospital staff, students, and members of the community.
 The programme helped spread awareness about eye donation and encouraged the public to consider pledging their eyes for donation.
 To encourage people to pledge their eyes after death and to clear up false myths about corneal donation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks given by Ms.Alagananda VI semester student. The awareness programme was successfully conducted with the active participation of the students, health care personnels and OPD patients. Overall, the programme was informative, interactive and beneficial in promoting awareness about eye donation.
The event concluded with the inspiring message “Eye Donation – Gift of Sight, Gift of Life.”
