POLYENDOCRINE METABOLIC OVARIAN SYNDROME (PMOS) AWARENESS PROGRAMME

Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) is a condition associated with hormonal and metabolic disturbances that can affect women’s reproductive, physical, and emotional health. The theme “Know the Signs, Take Control” lack of awareness regarding the signs, symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures may lead to delayed identification and management. Awareness programmes play an important role in promoting healthy lifestyle practices and encouraging timely medical consultation.
The main aim of this programme was to create awareness among school students and the community about PMOS, its signs and symptoms, risk factors, prevention, early identification, and appropriate management. The session emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, regular physical activity, healthy body weight, stress management, and seeking medical advice when symptoms are noticed.
As part of this awareness initiative, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing, P.K. Das College of Nursing, organized an awareness programme at Swathy Central School, Vaniyamkulam, on 01.09.2026 at 11.00 a.m. The programme commenced with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address delivered by Mrs. Selvi.R, Assistant Professor. The inaugural address and theme presentation were given by Llt.Col.Dr.Regina P.F, HOD and Professor P.K.Das college of nursing, Who highlighted the importance of reproductive health awareness among adolescents and young women.
An informative health awareness talk on “Understanding Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS)” was delivered by the faculty and student nurses of P.K. Das College of Nursing. The session covered the meaning of PMOS, causes and risk factors, common signs and symptoms, hormonal and metabolic changes, possible complications, preventive measures, healthy dietary practices, physical activity, stress management, and the importance of early consultation. The session was made interactive through visual presentations, demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, and discussion. Students actively participated in the programme by asking questions and sharing their experiences and understanding of menstrual and reproductive health.
Beneficiaries
The programme benefited students, teachers, and staff of Swathy Central School, Vaniyamkulam. Total no of beneficiaries: 50 Participants.
Outcomes of the Programme
· Students gained improved knowledge regarding PMOS and its associated health problems.
· Participants were able to identify the common signs and symptoms requiring attention.
· Awareness was created regarding healthy diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and stress management.
· Students understood the importance of early identification and timely medical consultation.
· Participants became more aware of the relationship between hormonal health, metabolic health, and reproductive health.
· The programme encouraged students to adopt healthy lifestyle practices to reduce preventable risk factors.
· The interactive session provided an opportunity for students to clarify their doubts and misconceptions regarding ovarian and hormonal health.
· The programme contributed to improving awareness of women’s reproductive health among students and the school community.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the faculty/student representative. The awareness programme was successfully conducted with the active participation of the students and teachers of Swathy Central School. Overall, the programme was informative, interactive, and beneficial in promoting awareness about PMOS and the importance of early recognition, prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices.
