WORLD HEPATITIS DAY CELEBRATION
The World Hepatitis Day Celebration was conducted successfully on 28 July 2026 at Vaniyamkulam (Beside P.K. Das College of Nursing) with the objective of creating awareness among the public regarding hepatitis, its prevention, early diagnosis, and effective management. The programme was organized by the Medical Surgical Nursing Department, P.K. Das College of Nursing, as part of its community health awareness initiative.
The programme commenced at 10.30 a.m. with a prayer song rendered by Ms. Akshaya K., invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the event. This was followed by a welcome address delivered by Mr. Abhishek M.K., IInd Year B.Sc (N) Student who warmly welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of observing World Hepatitis Day to increase public awareness about viral hepatitis and promote preventive health practices.
An informative session introducing World Hepatitis Day was presented by Ms. Abiya Jacob, IInd Year B.Sc (N) Student who explained the significance of the day, the various types of hepatitis, modes of transmission, signs and symptoms, preventive measures, vaccination, early diagnosis, and treatment options. The session effectively emphasized the importance of preventing hepatitis through health education, vaccination, and healthy lifestyle practices.
Following the introduction, Ms. Aiswarya T.G. IInd Year B.Sc (N) Student provided instructions regarding the role play and explained its objectives to the audience.The highlight of the programme was an informative and engaging role play performed by 15 Second Year B.Sc. Nursing students. Through realistic situations and effective communication, the students demonstrated the causes, risk factors, symptoms, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and common misconceptions related to hepatitis. The role play stressed the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, practising safe injection techniques, ensuring safe blood transfusions, receiving Hepatitis B vaccination, and seeking timely medical care. The performance effectively conveyed the message that hepatitis is preventable and manageable through awareness and responsible health practices.
The programme received active participation and appreciation from the audience. The awareness activity helped the public gain a better understanding of hepatitis and encouraged them to adopt preventive measures and healthy behaviours to reduce the risk of infection.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Anaina K.S., IInd year B.Sc (N) student who expressed sincere gratitude to the Head of the Department, faculty members, programme coordinator, student participants, and the audience for their valuable support and cooperation in making the programme a grand success.
The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Vineetha T., Programme Coordinator, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Geetha Chitra J., Head of the Department, Medical Surgical Nursing Department, P.K. Das College of Nursing. The event concluded successfully with positive feedback from the participants and the public, successfully achieving its objective of creating awareness about the prevention, early detection, and management of hepatitis.
